Leaders in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
(TMS)
for Depression

Our TMS Services:

At TMS Services of West Texaswe offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (known as TMS) for treatment resistant Depression (typically diagnosed as Major Depressive Disorder). TMS is a non-invasive, FDA approved procedure option when treatments like medication or psychotherapy have not been effective and is considered to be a highly effective and safe treatment. The TMS system we use has been in existence for over 30 years and is covered by most insurances (self pay options are also available).

We are here to support you on your mental health journey!

Initial Psychiatric Evaluation (Required)

Our experienced team of Psychiatric Providers will complete an Initial Psychiatric Evaluation to determine if you are a candidate for TMS therapy. We will review your full medical and psychiatric history and discuss treatment options with you.

Initial TMS Session

Once our providers have determined that you are a candidate for TMS therapy, we will complete an Initial TMS Session. During this session you will be comfortably seated while our providers create a map of where best to deliver gentle magnetic pulses that will stimulate nerve cells in the brain that are often under-active in depressed patients. This non-invasive procedure typically lasts about 30 to 60 minutes. After the session, patients can resume daily activities since there is no downtime.

Follow Up TMS Session

Follow Up TMS Sessions will take place daily during weekdays (Mondays - Fridays) until the treatment is completed. These sessions typically last about 20 minutes and are also non-invasive with no downtime required, therefore you may resume your daily activities following each session.

How TMS works as a treatment for Depression:

"Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy works by sending short magnetic pulses to target the exact areas of the brain affected by Depression – stimulating and activating these neural pathways so that the inactive signals begin firing and working again, thus, restoring the emotional control center."

Specific areas addressed usually include the prefrontal cortex because that is often the area that is underactive for people with depression. Magnetic pulses take action on the neurons of the brain by creating small electrical currents to stimulate the brain cells / neurons. Once the neurons are stimulated, this can help potentially increase activity in targeted areas of the brain, such as areas of the brain believed to help in mood regulation.

TMS, over time, can help improve mood and mental functioning. TMS is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure, therefore no anesthesia is required.

We are happy to consult with you to determine if TMS is the right choice for you.
